                        Christmas and its connection to Hanukah

Soon, we will celebrate one of the most sacred events in World History. The birth of Jesus Christ. He is the son of God. Born as part of the Trinity, through the action of the Holy Spirit. Working as part of God the Father, upon the virgin Mary. Biblical scholars have pointed out that the birth likely occurred in the Spring and not the winter. Which is why the Shepard’s were in the fields when God directed His angel Gabriel to guide them to the, “new great Shepherd.”  However, historical documents point out that the “Wise Men” arrived months after the birth. They followed the sign from a star coming from the Constellation of Judah otherwise known as Leo. Hence the Biblical term, “The Lion of Judah.” It took some months for the Wise Men to arrive and they brought presents. Hanukah, is the rededication of the Jewish Temple and celebration of the Jewish revolt against the Greeks. They had tried to force the Jews to accept other gods and subsequent traditions. The famous lighting of the menorah, with one day worth of oil, kept burning for 8 days. This miraculous event spurred the, “festival of lights.” At the conclusion of the rededication celebration is the giving of gifts. It is at that point, when the “Wise Men” arrived in Jerusalem. They found the city in celebration (Hanukah), festival of lights, and like many others, brought presents. Except, their gifts were ear marked, for the new “King of Judah.” When they found Jesus, they worshipped Him and gave Him the gifts. This is why we remember the Birth of the Son of God in December. It is also why Christmas is to be celebrated by all. God gave to us His Son to guide us into the light of God. Ultimately, Jesus became the sacrifice to redeem us of our sins. Easter is the other event for all to remember. The death and resurrection of Jesus, paved the way for all that believe to find peace through God’s Holy Spirit. There is one faith, one Lord, and one Baptism. Jesus told us all that He is the only way to get to heaven (John 14:6). Therefore, Christmas, is not a secular celebration with a holiday tree, holiday lights, and holiday presents. It is Christmas. Meaning, “God is with us.” God remains with those that believe not in “Santa Claus.” But in his Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the only true, “light of the world.” And, the greatest present ever given.
